Andy is a big believer in the power of redemption and second chances. He says compassionately, “We all make mistakes and bad decisions, and we all need grace and forgiveness.” For Andy, the fact that our agency provides a unique resource for people who are working to get their lives back on track and make the most of their opportunities is inspiring. “I feel lucky,” he remarks, “to do my small part to help the Fountain Fund help them."
Fun Fact
Andy’s first job out of college was as a teacher in a small, rural village in western Kenya which had no running water, electricity, or cars.

Daniel Goodall, Treasurer

Dan’s passion for the Fountain Fund is driven by a determination to remove those barriers so people are able to thrive - not just survive. He knows that inequity in this life often separates people from possibility. Shares Dan, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to help, in some small way, level the playing field and create opportunities for elevating our returning citizens.”

For Bevin, our agency’s ability to, “demonstrate the power of community to effect positive outcomes in people’s lives” is motivating and galvanizing. It serves as a beautiful reminder that
we need each other. “My success was not borne by my individual effort but by the encouragement of a wide and diverse community that genuinely believed that I was capable of achieving my goals,” he says. Bevin sees his board involvement as a platform to provide similar support, elevating Client Partners as they rebuild their lives & pursue their dreams.

Lisa Lorish
Lisa joined the board while working as a public defender. Hearing her clients’ distressing stories upon reentry drives her dedication to our mission. “The Fountain Fund gives people a real chance for success back in the community. Believing in someone's capacity is one thing, funding it is another thing altogether.” Several of her former clients have accessed services, and that support has truly been life-changing. “The idea that someone would actually invest in their future success was almost as significant as receiving the loan.” Lisa currently serves as a judge on the Virginia Court of Appeals.
Fun Fact
Lisa confesses that she is, “…pretty proud of her double lattice pie crust!” She also likes to crush her children at board games and listens to several novels a month.

Tim Heaphy, Chair
Willkie, Farr & Gallagher
As a lawyer and our agency’s founder, Tim brings a unique and valued perspective. The Fountain Fund, he openly shares, was born from a conversation with a formerly incarcerated man he had prosecuted. “Walt,” Tim recalls, “just wanted to be productive. But our society’s broken systems, particularly financial, were denying him that opportunity. And this didn’t just feel like a tragedy, it felt unethical." It also didn’t foster safe and thriving communities, a vision to which Tim has dedicated his entire life. “We are at our best – collectively - when everyone has the possibility to succeed,” remarks Tim. The Fountain Fund helps create this paradigm.
Fun Fact
Tim served as a lead investigator for both the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville and the January 6th attack on the Capitol. His book Harbingers, set for release in 2025, will explore the connection between these events and avenues for healing our divided nation.

Kelly Orians
First 72+
Kelly has devoted her entire adult life, and even a portion of her teenage years, to helping people get out of and stay out of prison. She shares fervently, “Over the years, I’ve heard so many recently released folks say… I’m home, but I’m not free.” This painful refrain is a part of what propels her engagement and involvement with the board. “Financial security and financial independence are proxies for true freedom,” she notes. “And that’s what the Fountain Fund works to provide to all if its Client Partners.” Freedom.
Fun Fact
When Kelly was in 6th grade, her gym teacher was a professional clown. One of her secret powers, as a result of that unique experience, is knowing how to ride a unicycle!

She shares, “…them helping me is actually why I’m still here today. My job was in jeopardy, my livelihood was in jeopardy. I had to humble myself and ask for help. And the way they greeted me, and treated me, and made me feel like I was worthy… that was so important.”

Pat Smith
Retired OAR Executive
As a member of the Loan Review Committee for both Philadelphia and Charlottesville, Pat loves being directly involved with “seeing and supporting Client Partners in their efforts to get what they need. It inspires me to see what people have survived, what they’ve gone through, what their dreams are and where they’re headed.” Pat had a long-career in the reentry field, but because of the Fountain Fund’s ability to offer low-interest loans, this experience feels different. She remarks, “It’s nice to be able to actually help people elevate!”
Fun Fact
Pat is OBSESSED with exercise, healthy eating AND the news. This means, in any given moment, you might find her working out, noshing vegan-style OR learning about the world.
